Agroecology Workshops – Five experiences to cultivate culture, community, and territory

Following the success of the Mediterranean Agroecology Congress, held in Agrigento from June 9 to 12, 2025, the legacy of that international meeting continues to flourish through five new events, each representing key moments within the Agrigento Italian Capital of Culture 2025 program.
Five experiential workshops, five organic farms (and those undergoing agroecological transition) in the Agrigento area, five opportunities to rediscover the land, biodiversity, and the profound value of relationships between people, places, and traditions.
Thus, the “Agroecology Workshops” were born, a participatory program promoted by the Sicilian Agroecology Coordination Organization (OdV) in collaboration with the Valle dei Templi Agroecological Biodistrict, as part of the territorial animation project supported by the Municipality of Agrigento for Agrigento, Italian Capital of Culture 2025.
The initiative aims to build bridges between culture, ecology, and community, engaging residents, producers, students, and rural enthusiasts in a collective journey to discover the values of agroecology, the solidarity economy, and territorial regeneration.
Each workshop will offer farm visits, meetings with experts, opportunities for discussion, and tastings of organic and local products, for an immersive experience of environmental education and the promotion of sustainable agricultural practices.

Here is the schedule of the five events:

November 9 – Aragona, at the Carbonìa Organic Farm: focus on inland areas and the role of agroforestry in agricultural regeneration.

November 16 – Agrigento, double meeting at the Lo Pilato and Filì farms: enhancing the agroforestry and landscape of the Valley of the Temples, amidst almond, citrus, and olive trees.

November 30 – Licata, at the Fattoria Vassallo: protecting and enhancing agricultural biodiversity through the work of small-scale producers.

December 12 – Agrigento, at the Collegio dei Filippini, with the participation of the Azzalora Bio Organic Farm: reflections on ethnoecology and rural traditions, to build shared community paths.

December 21 – Agrigento, at the Airone Srl Organic Farm: workshop dedicated to the role of ecotourism in territorial development and the importance of networking.

Five experiences, five stages of a journey that intertwines culture and nature, innovation and memory, continuing the dialogue initiated by the Mediterranean Agroecology Congress and helping to further entrench the values of Agrigento, Italian Capital of Culture 2025, in the local area.
