Since July 2026, the Sicilian Agroecology Coordination has been an official member of the Agroecology Coalition, the international coalition that brings together governments, civil society organizations, research institutions, farmer organizations, and other stakeholders committed to promoting the agroecological transition of food systems globally.
Joining the Coalition represents an important recognition of the Coordination’s progress since its inception and strengthens the international dimension of its activities in Sicily and the Mediterranean to disseminate the principles of agroecology.
The Agroecology Coalition promotes international collaboration, dialogue between the various stakeholders in agro-food systems, and the sharing of experiences and policies to accelerate the agroecological transition, helping to address the challenges of food security, climate change, biodiversity protection, and social justice.
For the Sicilian Agroecology Coordination, this membership represents the natural evolution of a journey begun in 2017 and consolidated over the years through research, training, dissemination, and support for agroecological transition processes, as well as through its contribution to the approval of Sicilian Regional Law No. 21 of July 29, 2021, the first Italian legislation dedicated to agroecology.
This membership also holds strategic importance for strengthening the Mediterranean Agroecology Network (AEMED), the Coordination’s international body, with the aim of increasingly integrating the network’s activities within the Agroecology Coalition and fostering knowledge exchange, dialogue, and cooperation among Mediterranean countries. In this way, AEMED will be able to consolidate its role as a reference platform for promoting shared agroecological transition processes in the Mediterranean region.
Joining the Agroecology Coalition will allow for the expansion of international collaborations, leveraging the Coordination’s experience and contributing to the construction of more sustainable, resilient, and equitable food systems.
This new membership confirms the Sicilian Agroecology Coordination’s desire to strengthen its commitment to international networks, contributing, from Sicily and the Mediterranean, to the development of a global community committed to the dissemination of agroecology and the promotion of sustainable agricultural models.
