In Sicily, an ever-increasing portion of agricultural land is now abandoned: lands confiscated from the Mafia, farms left unmanaged, and countryside exposed to the risk of desertification, fires, and reappropriation by agricultural mafias.
Added to this are critical structural factors:
the crisis in traditional agriculture;
the high average age of farmers;
the scarcity of young people willing to enter the sector;
the loss of biodiversity and soil fertility.
Faced with this scenario, immediate and collective commitment is essential.
Our mission –
As operators and promoters of Sicilian and Mediterranean agroecology, we have the duty and responsibility to:
– recover abandoned and confiscated lands,
– rebuild biodiversity and fertility,
– create new agricultural employment,
– generate clean and sustainable income,
– produce healthy food for consumers,
– regenerate communities and territories.
Our approach is based on innovative and fully agroecological agricultural models.

What we want to achieve –
Around the identified lands, we aim to establish multigenerational and multicultural social cooperatives composed of:
– young workers and technicians,
– immigrants and new residents,
– specialized agroecology operators.
The reclaimed farms will be transformed into integrated businesses with high social and environmental value, including:
– Agroecological farms using various regenerative techniques;
– Social and inclusive farms;
– Educational farms for schools and families;
– Ethical agritourisms linked to the local area;
– Rural canteens and direct sales outlets.
How you can contribute –
We invite all members of the Sicilian Agroecology Coordination and all friendly associations to report abandoned farms and lands.
Each report can become the first step towards launching a new agroecological and social outreach in Sicily.
