The Sicilian Agroecology Coordination Committee announces that Valentina Palmeri, a former member of the Sicilian Regional Assembly, has been elected President of the Mediterranean Agroecology Network (AEMED) for the three-year term 2026–2029.
During her parliamentary term, Valentina Palmeri promoted the bill that led to the approval of Regional Law No. 21/2021, the first regional legislation entirely dedicated to agroecology in Italy and Europe. The law introduced measures to promote sustainable agricultural practices, protect biodiversity, combat desertification and reforestation, and support producers engaged in the agroecological transition.
The Mediterranean Agroecology Network (AEMED) was founded with the aim of fostering collaboration between territories, institutions, farmers, researchers, and civil society organizations in Mediterranean countries. Its objectives include the exchange of knowledge and practices, the promotion of training and participatory research, and support for public policies consistent with the principles of agroecology.
Valentina Palmeri’s election is part of the consolidation of the Mediterranean network and aims to strengthen coordination among those engaged in the agroecological transition in the area.
